Feathered fortune tellers
On the sunshade is written "horóscopo personal".
It shades a chest covered with many amulets and two emarald green perrots which walks on Don Juan's shoulders, their owner. |
A local comes to consult the cards and introduce hilmself, name, date of birth and family situation.
Don Juan in a solemn tone asks the perrots :
“El Señor Nestor, célibataire, bachelor, forty eight years old would like Roberto to tell his horoscope. Let's start with the professional life”.
Roberto proudly swings among the thousands cards in the drawer.
It suddenly stops.
With a precise peck , picks a card.
Then comes back on its holder and gives it to Nestor : advises and lucky day are written on it. |
It takes place on the big square in Honda, under the arcades.
A salsa rythm covers the noise.
But under the sunshade, unconcerned, Roberto and Mercedes apply themselves.
Depending on the question they pick the card in the appropriate drawer : health, love, work or money.
The perrots are free but never leave their owner.
Their wings are not cut though.
Don Juan tells us in confidence that it is a family secret taught by his father.

The wooden chest is also part of the heritage.
During the long hours travelling, the perrots find shelter and food in it.
Indeed, this career lead them almost everyday in a different village.
Traditions are getting lost and life is hard.
But for Don Juan the important thing is to see his perrots happy.
